Michael Fortune 3-day Masterclass

3D Joinery and Working with Curves

Wednesday 17th–Friday 19th October

About the masterclass

Join Michael C. Fortune as he explains how to overcome the making challenges of a furniture design that features compound angles and uncommon joinery. Michael will demonstrate the use of endo-skeletons and exoskeletons to measure angles anywhere on a piece of furniture without doing any calculations or even knowing any numbers. Participants will be encouraged to design a piece of furniture and problem solve the process of construction in a group experience format. This workshop will involve demonstrations as well as hands-on elements.

Participants will learn an approach to working with curved elements on complex forms. Set your piece out using no calculations. Cut your joinery and glue your curved piece by creating a clamping strategy that always puts pressure directly in line with the glue line. Michael will demonstrate how to make specialised cauls, cradles and clamps to get the pressure exactly where it is needed. Shape your piece using hand and power-tools. Take home a series of sample joints and illustrations of shop fabricated jigs.

This course is perfect for anyone wishing to build complex curved designs. Suitable for intermediate and advanced woodworkers. Your group will enjoy technical support from a Dunstone Design craftsman – only 14 places available so purchase your ticket today.
